Description: The Province dataset was derived from the realigned Wards dataset as released in June 2011 by the Demarcation Board. The Wards dataset released in June 2011 by the demarcation board was realigned to the DWA Landmass Boundary Coastline. All Islands were deleted from this dataset. During this process all multipart polygons were converted to single part polygons. Topology was created to check for overlaps and gaps
Description: The water management areas are the areas whereby regional or catchment levels will be managed. The National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998) requires the progressive development of a National Water Resource Strategy (NWRS), which provides a framework for the protection, use, development, conservation, management and control of water resources for the country as a whole. The new DWA landmass coastal boundary and the northern boundary of the 2011 released Demarcation Board Municipal boundaries were used to re-align this dataset to the DWA Standard RSA landmass bounday. This alignment was applied to the 2004 WMA boundary dataset.
Description: The finalized WMA boundaries are a component of the NWRS which was gazetted on 16 August 2013, Gazette no. 36736,notice no.845The water management areas are the areas whereby regional or catchment levels will be managed. Description: The new SRTM Quaternary Catchment as prepared for the Water Reaseach Commission project K5/1908 was used to produce a dataset with DWA political boundaries in stead of the "hydrological political boundaries" by replacing the "hydrological political boundaries" with the new DWA landmass coastline and the northern boundary of South Africa from the 2011 Demarcation Board release. By doing this a new zone refered to as "No Impact Zone (NIZ)" was added to coastal areas where dunes caused water to flow directly to the sea. These NIZ zones where omited from the original dataset.
